Statement:
I love a lot of subject matter, but painting the Western
outdoors is what really sends me over the top. I find the Southwest incredibly beautiful and spacious. I love the ageless interplay of
sky and land, light and shade, the vast expanse, and the
intimate moments. And I love color, sometimes
arbitrary color, but the right color in the right place
which makes the painting work. This is not to say that my
work is “romantic,” although certainly it
isn’t photorealistic. It’s a celebration of
this land, an impression, a rough beauty that feels right
to me.
I paint because I’m driven to, and luckily, I can now devote the time to it that I've wanted for so many years. I'm also privileged to own Joyous Lake Gallery in Pinetop-Lakeside, Arizona, where we make our home. The gallery's website is at http://joyouslakegallery.com.
