We've called them Barnacle flowers for years, since they look like gorgeous blue barnacles, but a trip through a friend's wildflower book identifies something like them called a "Bottle Gentian."

Lots of fun painting at the Palapas Nursery in Palm Springs. What a wonderful place, full of flowers, artists working at their booths, all kinds of bird houses - and wildlife. We even saw little rabbits running around. Plein air.
